Zoning Permits
A Zoning Permit must be obtained when land is used; building or other structure is erected, moved, added to, structurally altered, or changed from one permitted use to another; or any grading takes place on any lot or parcel of ground in the City of Covington.

Residential Building/Addition requires a Building Permit and “to scale” drawings/plans. The fees are $107 for Single/Two-Family and $160 for Multi-Family properties.

Commercial Building/Addition requires a Building Permit and “to scale” drawings/plans. The fees are $213 for Commercial/Industrial.

Residential Demolition requires Code Enforcement review. There is no fee.

Commercial Demolition requires Code Enforcement review. There is no fee.

Accessory Structure requires a Building Permit if >120 sq. ft and site plan/drawings. The fees are $80.

Residential Driveway requires a Right-of-Way Encroachment Permit and site plan/drawings. The fees are $80.

Commercial Driveway requires a Right-of-Way Encroachment Permit and site plan/drawings. The fees are $80.

Fence/Wall requires a Building Permit if > 6 ft. tall and site plan/drawings. The fees are $80.

Sign requires drawings/illustration of proposal. The fees are $107.

New Business requires an Occupational License Permit. The fees are $80.

Home Occupation requires an Occupational License Permit. The fees are $53.

Change of Ownership requires an Occupational License Permit. The fees are $80.

Change of Use has no additional requirements. The fees are $80.
Applications and associated fees must be submitted to the Zoning Specialist for review. All required permits must be issued and obtained before any construction or business operation takes place.
If proposed construction, addition, fence/wall, sign, etc. is on a property within a Historic Preservation Overlay district, a Certificate of Appropriateness will be required.
